Softball falls to Oakland City and Concordia in season opening doubleheader

ROSEMONT, Ill. --- The Bethel Pilots Softball team (0-2) opened their season against the Oakland City Mighty Oaks (1-0) and the Concordia (Mich.) Cardinals (1-0), where the Pilots fell 3-0 and 5-2 respectively

AGAINST OAKLAND CITY

The game was deadlocked until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Mighty Oaks' Emma Williams drove in two runs on a double, followed by Kasey Wood's RBI single to take the lead and win 3-0.

Ryann Norris allowed three earned runs on nine hits and eight strikeouts in her first start of the season, where she threw a complete game.

Meghan Younger had a two-hit game with a single to right center in the bottom of the fifth and a single down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh.

AGAINST CONCORDIA (MICH.)

The Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the first on a first-and-third situation. Cassidy Kane was caught stealing at second base, which allowed Payton Lewis to score the first run of the game.

Alyssa Forys answered back in the top of the third with an RBI single to left field to tie the game 1-1, but the Cardinals bit back in the bottom of the third frame with a three-run triple, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 advantage.

Concordia drove in an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth with Shannon McAlinden's RBI ground-rule double to left, which added to the Cardinals' lead of 5-1.

With time running out, Meghan Younger doubled to left field to score Morgan Blubaum, but it was not enough as the Pilots fell 5-2.

Harmony Looney threw five innings, allowing seven hits, five earned runs, five walks, and struck out five batters. Leeah Wade took the circle in relief at the bottom of the sixth inning, where she shut down the Cardinals and allowed one hit.
