MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- Four Pilots dropped double-digit points against the Defiance Yellow Jackets (0-2) Friday night in the Gates Gymnasium in Bethel's (3-1) win 84-44 in their fourth consecutive home game to open the season.
Gracie Lambes led the Pilot offense with 7-for-10 shooting from the floor and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe for 18 points.
Olivia Nickerson dropped 17 points on 6-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-11 from beyond the arc.
Justice Williams had a great night with 13 points and 5-for-13 shooting, with
Caroline Morris hitting 10 points and 3-for-5 from the floor.
Bethel had a major 36 points off Defiance's 28 turnovers and had 14 second-chance points on 16 offensive boards. The Pilots also grabbed 15 more rebounds than the Yellow Jackets.
Both sides defended well into the first five opening minutes, with
Jazmyn Smith laying one off the glass at 4:38 to get Bethel to a two-possession lead of 10-5.
Nickerson hit a three at 2:08 to grow the Pilot lead to their quarter-highest seven, 16-9, and the quarter ended with Morris knocking down two free throws at the line, 20-14.
Lambes hit two free throws at 6:33 in the second to put the Pilots in their first double-digit game lead 26-16, then jumped to 41-21 at 1:58 off a Norris layup.
The Pilots hit the 31-point lead mark at 2:56 from a drive and a score from Williams and kept the large advantage into the fourth at 1:09, where the lead hit 40 points, 82-42.
Williams hit another layup with 33 seconds to go in regulation to give BU their highest lead of the game at 42, 84-42, then ended the night with an 84-44 win.
The Pilots play their final home game of the opening six-game home slate against the IUSB Titans in the Gates Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
