HUNTINGTON, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots (15-11, 5-6) won their sixth match that went to five sets this season over the Huntington Foresters (13-10, 5-6) in their second face-off and won 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13) in both meetings, this time in Platt Arena Saturday afternoon.
Haley Biedenbach led the offense with efficiency with a season-high 55 assists, six shy of her career-high 61 assists set against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Oct. 21, 2023. Biedenbach had a double-double with 55 assists and 16 digs.
The first set went back and forth starting at 14-14 and tied again at 17-17 before a Forester 8-3 run to put away set one 25-20.
Bethel took the second set 25-21 after
Gracen Norris,
Ainsley Tacke, and
Breyana Bosket combined to fend off HU.
The Pilots outlasted the Foresters in the third, climbing out of a couple-point deficit until tying the set 20-20, then tying again 21-21 and again 22-22.
Paige Hickey aced the Foresters, a bad set by HU, then a Forester attack error gave the Pilots the third 25-22.
Huntington won the fourth set 25-21 and forced the fifth that went down to the wire and ended with a bad set by HU and gave the Pilots the fifth 15-13 and the match 3-2.
NEXT TIME OUT
Bethel hosts the #13 Marian Knights at the Gates Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. to continue the Crossroads League season. The Pilots (5-6) are fifth in the Crossroads League standings under the Knights in fourth (6-4) and are in the hunt to host the Quarterfinal of the Crossroads League Tournament if they can jump the Knights. The top eight teams advance to the Crossroads League Tournament with the top four seeds hosting the Quarterfinal.
