MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The (RV) Bethel Pilots and the NAIA #1 Grace Lancers face off at the 143rd meeting on a snowy and cold Saturday afternoon in a battle of the top three teams in the Crossroads League.
The Pilots come off a tough road loss to the Marian Knights on Wednesday night with a six-game winning streak preceding the matchup. Bethel sits in third place in the Crossroads League standings, one game behind the Indiana Wildcats, who beat the Taylor Trojans 104-72.
The Lancers are undefeated this season with a record of 16-0 and 6-0 in the Crossroads League. They are led by senior Elijah Malone, who averages 17.6 points per game, shooting 66% from the field, 43% from beyond the arc, and 82% from the line. Junior Cade Gibbs is also their second-best scorer, with 14.9 points per game and hitting 56% from the floor and 34% from long range.
On the boards, Ian Scott, Jake Wadding, and Malone have surpassed 100 rebounds this season, with Cade Gibbs grabbing 35 offensive rebounds.
Drew Lutz has lit up the net this season with 415 points (25.9 per game) and shooting 142-291 (48%) from the floor and 34% from deep. Lutz connected for 71 assists and 67 rebounds. Preston Phillips is hitting 68% of his shots this season and is the only Pilot with more than 100 rebounds with 106.
The game will be aired on WHME 46 and the Bethel Sports Network in partnership with the Regional Radio Sports Network, with the pregame show starting after the women's game versus Grace (Ind.) slated for a 3 p.m. tip-off, and the men are set to tip off at 5 p.m. in the Gates Gymnasium.
