Bethel splits with Huntington after Ryann Norris' outing in game two

MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The Pilots have split their fourth doubleheader of the season, losing 13-2 in game one and winning 4-2 in game two.

GAME 1

The Forresters put up three runs after scoring the first run on an error by the Pilot third-baseman Kate Cooper. The next two runs came from a two-RBI single giving Huntington a 3-0 lead.

The second was just as action-packed with a two-RBI single and another RBI single that doubled the Forester lead 6-0.

Edging closer to the 10-run rule, Huntington put up three runs in the third straight inning, which was started by a solo home run to left-center, then a two-RBI double.

The Foresters almost ended the game in the bottom of the fifth, but Emmie Pugh ripped a two-RBI double to keep the game going.

Huntington rallied again in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs to seal the game-one victory 13-2.

Hannah Frady ended her outing, allowing 12 earned runs on 15 hits, five walks, and six punchouts; Frady tied her season-high six strikeouts for the first time since Feb. 4 against Aquinas College in Tucson, Ari.

GAME 2

The nightcap began as a pitching duel between Bethel's Ryann Norris and Huntington's Maddie Turner. Meghan Younger scored Alyssa Forys on a ground out to first in the bottom of the first inning to give the Pilots their first lead of the afternoon.

Forys returns the favor in the bottom of the third on an error by the third baseman to score Meghan Pearson unearned and grew to a 2-0 lead.

The Foresters got on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to get within one run.

The Pilots added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a Meghan Younger RBI single to score Forys for the second time in the nightcap and take a 3-1 lead.

Bethel added one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth by Pearson, forcing an error by the second baseman to score Kate Cooper for the Pilots' fourth run.

Huntington tried to make a comeback in the top of the seventh and scored one run on an error but fell short to the Pilots 4-2.

THE FINAL STRETCH

The Pilots play their last regular season games against the Saint Francis (Ind.) Cougars for a four-game series start with a doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 27, in Fort Wayne, Ind., and end at Gardner Field on Friday, Apr. 28, beginning at 3 p.m.
