MARION, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots (13-19, 6-14) fell to the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats (20-11-1, 15-3) in Friday's doubleheader at the Wildcat Baseball Field.
GAME 1
Indiana Wesleyan made noise early in the first inning with a three-run home run followed by an RBI single to take a 4-0 lead.
Thomas Dolan drew a walk in the top of the first to answer 4-1, but the Wildcats followed in the bottom of the frame with three home runs, two of them back-to-back to put up three runs and increase their lead to 7-1.
The Pilots put up two more runs in the top of the third with an Eli MacDonald RBI double and a run scored on a fielder's choice on a double-play.
The Wildcats kept going in the fourth and fifth innings to score on a two-run and three-run home run and an RBI single to take game one 13-3 in a seven-inning run-rule ending.
GAME 2
The Wildcats struck first again in the nightcap with a sacrifice fly to left field in the first and a three-run homer in the second to give themselves an early 4-0 lead before the Pilots' Corbin Greenslade answered with an RBI double to score Andrew Miranda in the bottom of the third.
Lucas Thorn had an RBI single in the third inning, plating Corbin Greenslade and chipping the lead down to 4-2.
Indiana Wesleyan put up another insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center field to score their fifth run, then followed up in the sixth inning with the Wildcats' eighth home run of the day and their third three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to finish the series sweep of the Pilots 8-2.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Corbin Greenslade and Jeremy Wiersema both had multi-hit games with two hits each.
- Wiersema stole three bases in game one and one base in game two for four bases for the day.
- The Pilots struck out 16 times against Indiana Wesleyan in the Friday doubleheader.
BETHEL TRAVELS TO RV TAYLOR
The Pilots take on the RV Taylor University Trojans in a four-game series starting on Wednesday, Apr. 5, and Thursday, Apr. 6, for a midweek series in Upland, Ind., at Winterholter Field.
