MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots fall to 1-17, 0-8 after two losses to the RV Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars 4-2 and 13-4 at Gardner Field on Friday.
GAME 1
Mount Vernon got on the board in the top of the second inning on two RBI singles to get a two-run advantage, then tacked on another two runs in the top of the sixth to take the 4-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth frame, the Pilots rallied but came up short on an Emmie Pugh two-run bomb but fell short 4-2.
Ryann Norris threw a complete game allowing nine hits, four runs (two earned), and two walks in 93 pitches.
GAME 2
Mount Vernon scored two runs out of the gate on ground outs to shortstop and second base in the top of the first inning to lead 2-0.
Allison Snyder chipped away at the lead with a sacrifice fly that scored Meghan Younger to put the Pilots within one run in the bottom of the second.
Bethel took the lead in the third inning with Younger smashing a two-RBI double, and Morgan Dyke plated Emmie Pugh on an RBI single to take the lead 4-2.
The Cougars rallied with a two-run fourth inning, a big five-run top of the fifth, and another four runs in the top of the sixth to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Pilots 13-4.
