Rosemont, Ill. --- The Bethel Pilots Softball team (0-2) had a tough start against RV Aquinas (3-2) and Concordia (Mich.) (1-3) on Saturday in the Leadoff Classic, hosted by Roosevelt University.
GAME 1
It was a tight first inning, with a Saint run scored in the top of the first on an error, and the Pilots answered back with a run on a passed ball, scoring
Alyssa Forys to make it tied at one.
The Saints had a huge third inning, scoring six runs on a three-run home run, a two-run home run, and an RBI single through the right side.
Emmie Pugh tripled down the right field line in the bottom of the third to score
Meghan Younger to chip away at the lead 7-2.
Aquinas would squeak through three more runs with a two-RBI single in the fifth inning, an RBI single through the six holes, and scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to give the Saints the victory 12-2.
GAME 2
Bethel started hot out of the gate against Concordia (Mich.) with an RBI by
Hannah Frady in the top of the first to give the Pilots a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Bethel scored four insurance runs on a two-RBI single by
Alyssa Forys to give the Pilots a 3-0 advantage, then Pugh followed that up with a two-RBI single to score Forys and
Morgan Dyke and gave Bethel the 5-0 lead.
Concordia slowly chipped away at the lead with an RBI triple in the bottom of the third to score their first run of the game and make the score 5-1.
In the fifth inning, the Cardinals scored on an RBI double to right center, scoring two and quickly came within two runs, then cut one more on an RBI sing to get within one run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Cardinals tied the game on a squeeze and walked the game off with another reduction to take the win 6-5.
