Meza, Ari. --- The Bethel Pilots (0-6) dropped a tough doubleheader to the Park University – Gilbert Buccaneers (7-4) at Bell Bank Park 17-0 and 8-0 on Saturday to start their trip to Arizona.

GAME 1

The Buccaneers started strong with a grand slam in the bottom of the first by Gabby Romero to lead 4-0, then ended the inning with a run scored and an RBI single by Ledezma Romero to end the frame at 6-0.

Gabby Romero would strike again in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to score Danielle Farinas, which added another insurance run, 7-0. The Bucs would tack on one more run from an RBI single by Natali Castro to up the lead to 8-0.

The Bucs added two more runs in the bottom of the third with a Mariah Martinez RBI single and another Gabby Romero RBI single to grow the lead to 10-0.

The fourth inning gave the Bucs seven more runs, which started with a solo home run by Sierra Meyers, then an RBI single by Alana Van Dorn which made it a 12-0 game. The Bucs would continue to score five more runs to win 17-0.

Bethel's Hannah Frady was credited with the loss after throwing 2.2 innings on 12 hits, nine runs, and two walks.

GAME 2

The scoring was silent in the first frame, and the Bucs struck first in the bottom of the second with an RBI off a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly by Carolina Olivas to end the second frame with a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Bucs added two more runs on a two-run home run and a solo home run to advance to a 5-0 lead.

Park University – Gilbert scored on an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and a two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to win game two and sweep the day 8-0.

Ryann Norris threw five innings, struck out one, allowed eight runs on nine hits, and walked one batter.

NEXT TIME OUT 

Bethel starts the Tucson Invitational at the Lincoln Park Complex in Tucson, Ari. on Mar. 1 against Benedictine University at noon est. and will play them again at 2 p.m.
