Upland, Ind.?--- In a wild and crazy game of multiple double-digit comebacks, the Bethel University Women's Basketball team (8-18) completed a fourth quarter upset on the road against Taylor University (15-12) Saturday afternoon, scoring the last 17 points of the game to win 66-59.

A slow start for the Lady Pilots found them down early in the first quarter 11-4 as Taylor's Ariel Dale hit a three pointer with 7:30 to play. An 11-point run by TU late in the quarter made the score 24-8 going into the second quarter.

The start of the second quarter didn't go Bethel's way either as they had a couple of early turnovers that gave the Trojans a 29-11 advantage with 8:24 to go in the half. The Lady Pilots managed to cut the lead to just 10 points, 33-23 with a 12-4 run in the final minutes of the half, sparked by the fine play of Mariah Claywell and Maiah Shelton.

Katie Kinker sparked a 13-0 scoring spurt to start the third quarter with a three-pointer followed by two free throws and Bethel grabbed a brief 36-33 lead. A back-and-forth battle from both teams gave the home team a 50-44 lead going into the final quarter.

Taylor's own 7-0 run gave them another double-digit lead, 59-48 with 7:01 to play in the game. But incredibly, that would be it for the Trojans as the Bethel defense clamped down and didn't allow a point the rest of the way, streaking past Taylor with a 17-0 run to complete the upset.

The Pilots had four players score in double figures with Mariah Claywell (14), Maiah Shelton (13), Addi Jones (12), and Katie Kinker (11). Nyla Asad also impressed with eight points and 11 rebounds.

GAME NOTES:

· BU outscored TU 21-9 in the fourth quarter, including the final 17 points of the game.

· The Lady Pilots had just 9 turnovers and forced 19 Taylor miscues.

· Bethel skipper Scott Polsgrove is a 1987 graduate of Taylor University.
