Cedarville, Ohio --- The Bethel Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field teams competed in the NCCAA Indoor National Championship on Friday, where, after Day 1, the Women's team stands in third place out of 13 teams and the Men land in eighth of 14 teams.
DAY 1 HIGHLIGHTS
On the men's side, Shane Glasco finished third in the High Jump with a mark of 1.95m. Glasco finished under Campbellsville's Kilan Macklin and Dylan Webster, who both topped out at 2.00m even for the event. With his finish, Glasco earned All-American honors.
Elisha Fleming earned NCCAA All-American status in the Long Jump with a mark of 6.58m, which made him a NCCAA National Champion and .02 meters from the NAIA B Standard of 7.00m.
The women's team had a great showing with two All-American finishes, which included Grace Conway's runner-up finish in the Pole Vault at a 3.70m mark (NAIA A Standard). The 4x200 relay team of Brianna Hooton, Natali Gonzalez, Kilynn Guiler, and Vladlena Klymova finished runner-up in the event with a time of 1:48.42.
Ariel Manns also earned NCCAA All-American status. She finished third-place in the High Jump with a 1.57m mark, which tied Alyssa Horstman, who also topped out at 1.57m. Horstman was given second place due to Manns' two misses on the 1.57m jump before she cleared the jump on her final try.
The most impressive finish of the day was Cailyn Pentacost's third-place All-American performance in the Pentathlon. She started the overall event with a fourth-place sprint in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.63, then cleared 1.55m in the High Jump, earning her a third-place finish in the individual event. Pentacost won the Shot Put with an 11.72m mark that soared her above the fourteen other throwers. She finished the event with a mark of 4.90m in the Long Jump for third place and finished sixth place in the 800-meter with a time of 2:42.74.
NEXT TIME OUT
Day two of the NCCAA Championship starts Saturday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Doden Fieldhouse to decide the champion of the NCCAA.
