Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

RV Men's Basketball goes down to the wire with RV Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. --- In the third-ever meeting between the Pilots and Hustlin Owls and the first time playing RV Oregon Tech in Oregon, Bethel lost for the first time in the matchup's history.

The first half was a cage match with both sides trading blows. Nathan Aerts and Drew Lutz hit jumpers to keep the Pilots within three in the opening minutes.

At 12:18 in the first half, Jameir Jefferson gave the Pilots their largest lead of the half with a layup assisted by Nathan Aerts, 15-9.

After a couple of empty possessions, the Hustlin Owls tied the game at 17-17 at 9:30, but Lutz wrangled Oregon Tech back at 8:40 to tie the game at 21, all on a layup connected by Aerts.

The pattern would continue going into halftime, with 10 lead changes in the final eight minutes of the first half.

The tight battle continued into the second half, with neither side gaining more than a four-point lead until 10:28 when the Hustlin Owls went up by five on a layup.

Oregon Tech gained a seven-point lead at 4:46 left in regulation, and crunch time began. Lutz's and-one tied the game at 75-75, and Bethel battled from down four until 12 seconds to go. Lutz gets fouled driving down the lane and makes the layup.

Lutz missed both free throws, and Aerts threw up one last attempt to send the game into overtime, but it knocked off the rim, and the Pilots fell 85-83 in the first game of the Cascade-Crossroads Classic.
