Adrian, Mich. --- The Bethel Pilots (1-1) win the program's first-ever match against the Siena Heights Saints (1-1) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The first set started with a 5-1 run by the Saints, but a service error broke up the run along with a kill by freshman
Marcos Henrike to tally the Pilots' third point. A bad set by Siena Heights would put their lead to three points, but despite late set kills by Freshmen
Mustafa Yildiz and
Arthur Barreto, the Pilots would lose set one 25-17.
Set two was closer out of the gate, but the lead ballooned to 20-9, with freshman outside hitter
Tuna Konukcu swinging two straight kills. After miscues by the Siena Heights offense, the Pilots glided to a 25-14 set-two victory.
The Pilots broke away early in set three with a 6-0 run that started with a kill by Henrike and was supplemented by five straight attack errors by the Saints. The Pilots led by eight points before
Erik Malek sealed the third set 25-16 with a kill.
The fourth set began neck and neck and tied up six times before the Pilots pumped up the lead to a quick 19-12 score. Barreto and Konukcu put the match away with a kill each to win set four 25-19 and walked away with the Pilots' first-ever match victory.
Barreto led the Pilots in kills for the second match in a row with 12 kills on five errors, Henrike swung 10 kills on four errors, and
