Pilots Survive Game One, Take Two from Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. – Bethel Baseball jumped out to a 10-2 lead in game one and held on to take a 13-10 win before running away with game two 12-1 on Monday to split the four-game US Highway 20 Cup Series with Goshen. Jeremy Wiersema was one of five Pilots to homer on the day—one of his six hits—in the offensive onslaught.

  • The Pilots recorded 29 hits—10 going for extra bases—and 23 runs on the day. The Pilots have scored double-digit runs in five of their last nine ballgames. In all, the Pilots capitalized on scoring opportunities in 12 of their 16 frames on the day.
  • Since April 1, Jeremy Wiersema is hitting .548 with four doubles and two home runs, raising his batting average 62 points to .384 on the season. The sophomore leads the Crossroads League with 23 stolen bases and ranks 8th in batting average.
  • Andrew Miranda led off game one with a first pitch home run to right field. The Pilots got four home runs in their first three at bat opportunities of the day—solo shot by Miranda in the first, solo shot by Thomas Dolan—his second in as many days—and a two-run shot by Wiersema in the second, and a solo shot by Alex Stout in the third. Jake Schalasky added a two-run home run in the sixth inning of game two.
  • With the game one win, the Pilots eclipsed last season's win total of 15 games.
