Pilots Secure Game One Victory Over Rival Grace Lancers

MISHAWAKA, Ind. ---The Bethel Pilots defeated rival Grace College 7-6 in game one action on Thursday evening before falling 13-2 in game two.

Angel Alicea showcased his second home run of the season (the first was recorded on March 30 against Taylor) in the bottom of the fourth to give the Pilots a 4-3 lead.

Alicea and Stout both crossed home plate after Stout smacked a triple to get the Bethel bats started.

Jack Nunley and Elijah Gaines each added hits to further the Pilots' lead in the seventh. Nunley cracked a two-bagger to left center to score Logan Bevier, and Gaines followed suit with a base hit to score Nunley for a 6-3 lead.

Finally Jordan Landkrohn recorded the last Bethel run on a sacrifice fly by Senior Adam Walters in the eighth inning.

Luke Mast secured the win from the mound after seven innings of work, with four strikeouts and 110 pitches thrown. Adam Walters completed the game with 28 pitches thrown and two strikeouts.

In game two, Stout continued to connect at the plate with a single to left to score Freshman Trey Delp. Adam Walters found home in the seventh after capitalizing on an error by the second baseman.

Head Coach Seth Zartman shared, "I was very proud of our team...the way we responded in game one today. It was a total team win from all sides." He continued, "Luke Mast put together a great quality start followed by Adam Walters finishing things off. Our offense did a great job of stealing some extra bases and coming through with key hits when we needed it. The grind of finding a way to win was fun to watch from our ball club!"

The Pilots will complete their series with the Grace Lancers on Saturday, April 25 at 1 and 4 PM on Senior Day. The Bethel Seniors will be honored prior to game one at Jenkins Stadium.
