New Castle, Ind. --- The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 2023 class on Tuesday, with the Bethel Men's Basketball Hall of Fame coach Mike Lightfoot being awarded the Silver Medal.
Lightfoot graduated from LaVille High School in 1974 and was an all-state player with the Lancers. He played under Homer Drew at Bethel and was nominated for the Pete Maravich Award his senior year.
He started coaching at Bethel College in 1987, leading the Pilots to 794 wins in his career that ended in 2017.
During his tenure, Lightfoot led Bethel to 10 Crossroads League Regular Season Championships, eight Crossroads League Tournament Championships, and six Coach of the Year awards.
He was a nine-time National Coach of the Year and battled their way to 36 all-time No. 1 rankings in the NAIA Division II.
Lightfoot holds the second-longest streak of being ranked in NAIA Division II in 76 consecutive polls.
He was the quickest NAIA men's coach to reach 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700 career wins.
Lightfoot is currently in the Bethel, NCCAA, Marian High School, Small College and NAIA Hall of Fame.
The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 61st Men's Awards Banquet will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. The day's events will include a reception at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame museum in New Castle that afternoon and a banquet at the Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis.
