INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ---The Bethel Pilots (8-26, 6-22) kicked off last weekend's series with a huge upset win over the RV Marian University Knights (30-11) on Friday after picking up a win over the Spring Arbor University Cougars (23-15, 17-11) earlier in the week on Monday.
On Friday, the Pilots overcame the Knights 9-7 after a massive comeback. Bethel was down 5-0 until Mateo Falsetti-Nadeau stepped up to the plate in the fourth with a base hit to send
Anthony Cimini across home (5-1).
Adam Walters followed suit with a single to score fellow Senior
Andrew Dillon (5-2).
Marian answered with a two-RBI homer by Hector Corona to make it a 7-2 contest in the fifth.
Despite the challenge, the Pilots capitalized on the Knights' errors, scoring
Andrew Dillon and Mateo Falsetti-Nadeau after
Elijah Gaines was hit by a pitch, and
Trey Delp walked (7-4).
Angel Alicea continued to connect at the plate, posting a base-hit to right to score
Logan Bevier to cut the deficit to two (7-5).
Gaines took advantage of a wild pitch by Marian for the final Pilot run of the sixth, before Freshman
Anthony Cimini crushed a double in the eighth inning to score Delp and win the game for the Pilots.
Peter Wallsmith picked up his first win on the bump after three innings of work and 36 pitches thrown.
The Bethel Pilots will next face the University of Saint Francis Cougars (13-28, 11-17) on Friday, April 17 at the Cougar Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 1 PM.
