UPLAND, Ind.— The Bethel Pilots (6-20, 4-16) fell to the No. 3 Taylor University Trojans (30-3, 18-2) in their four game series, split between Saturday and Monday at Winterholter Field.
On Saturday, the Pilots fell 12-2 and 11-4 in the first half of the series to the NAIA ranked team.
Monday's game three highlighted the series with eight runs scored.
Freshman
Trey Delp showcased a two-RBI double, his third of the season, to score
Anthony Cimini and
Adam Walters for a 2-0 Bethel lead.
The Pilots held the Trojans off from scoring in the second, and Angel Alicia came in clutch with a big home run in the third to make a 6-0 game.
Both teams remained scoreless in the fourth before the Trojans answered in the bottom of the fifth with five runs to decrease their deficit (6-5).
After Taylor claimed an 8-6 lead in the sixth, Alicea continued to connect at the plate with a double to left to score
Jesse Stout in the seventh (7-8).
Alicea would then tie it up 8-8, scoring on a throwing error by the Taylor shortstop.
Despite the impressive battle with the No. 3 team in the country, Taylor would claim game three 18-8 and the final game 12-2.
The Bethel Pilots will regroup and look for their next victory on Thursday, April 2 against the Spring Arbor University Cougars (16-13, 11-9) at Jenkins Stadium. First pitch is set for 1 PM.
