WINONA LAKE, Ind. --- The season ended on the road with the last two games was a fight to add a couple wins to the final season record, but the Bethel Pilots (14-30, 9-27) fell short to the Grace Lancers (23-27, 14-22) 14-6 and 13-2 at Tom Roy - UPI Park on Saturday to finish the series.
GAME 1
Josh Cosme got the Lancers on the board with a double to left for Grant Hartley to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the second, then Dalton Cody scored by an error from Corbin Greenslade in the top of the third for the second Lancer run.
Greenslade smacked a two-run home run and plated Jordan Landkrohn to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth, but a walk gave Grace the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth along with a bases-clearing single to center for three more runs to make it 6-2. Cosme hit a hard ground ball to left for a seventh run and ended the fourth up 7-2.
Elijah Gaines doubled with a liner to center to plate Hudson Francis in the top of the fifth, then Drew Deming laced a hard ground ball to right for LJ Bevier to score and made it 7-4 in the top of the sixth. Adam Walters plated the fifth Pilot run with a sacrifice fly to center, later in the top of the sixth, for Lucas Thorn to score and chip away to a 7-5 deficit.
John Joyce homered over the right field wall for three runs in the bottom of the sixth then a walk made it 11-5. In the bottom of the seventh, Grace scored on a wild pitch, the Maximo De Leon doubled on a hard ground ball to left for two runs, then Jordan Landkrohn homered to right in the top of the ninth, but fell short 14-6.
Noah Borwege got the loss after he threw 3.1 innings in a start and allowed three hits, six runs (five earned), walked six batters, and struck out four.
GAME 2
Grace scored first in the bottom of the first from flying into a double play made by the left fielder, and De Leon crossed home, then a big seven-run inning ensued in the bottom of the second to make it 8-0 early.
De Leon hit a line drive single to center for the ninth run in the bottom of the third, then an error allowed the 10th run to cross. De Leon then singled on the ground to center for two runs to cross home, and the Lancers led 12-0 through four innings.
Dylan Cook lined to left field and scored Bevier to break up the shutout in the top of the fifth, then Noah Borwege drew a walk for Jesse Stout to score later in the fifth to make it a 12-2 game. Sean Gannon scored the final Lancer run in the bottom of the fifth from a fielder's choice, and Grace sealed the 13-2 win to end the regular season.
Lucas Nowacki suffered the loss after he threw three innings and allowed seven hits, 10 runs (seven earned), and walked four batters.
