WINONA LAKE, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots men's tennis team concluded their season with a 7-0 defeat against the Grace Lancers on Wednesday on the campus of Grace College.
In doubles action, the Pilots struggled to find their rhythm:
The singles matches followed a similar pattern, with the Pilots unable to secure a win:
- #1 Singles: Santiago Flores was bested by Pablo Gregori, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
- #2 Singles: Nicolo Marchetti lost to Sava Pons, 6-4, 6-4.
- #3 Singles: Victor Otin was defeated by Artur Pons, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
- #4 Singles: Sergio Orradre Escudero fell to Luis Codoba, 6-0, 6-2.
- #5 Singles: Garrison Miller was overpowered by Benjamin Rahine, 6-0, 6-1.
- #6 Singles: Daniel Jancic lost to Manuel Marques, 6-3, 7-5.
Head coach Jamal Henry reflected on the match, saying, "Today was a tough day. Grace is tops in the conference for a reason. Coach Lewis has done a great job with that team, and they will represent our conference well at Nationals in May. I was upset with the way we came out in doubles. We didn't really have that sense of urgency it takes to knock off a team like Grace. We did change things up in singles, and guys like Santi, Nico, Victor, and Daniel really gave their opponents a tough match. You never want to end the season on a down note, but it gives us great things to focus on in the off-season and over the summer, if we're to get on top of the conference like them."
