GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Bethel Pilots men's tennis team faced a tough defeat against the Calvin Knights, losing 5-2 in a competitive match on Saturday.
In doubles action, the Pilots struggled to gain momentum. The #1 doubles team of Nicola Marchetti and Santiago Flores fell to Calvin's Rodrigo Alipio and Mário Neto, 6-4. Similarly, the #2 doubles pair, Victor Otin, and Bernat Coll, were defeated by Ryan Broek and Felipe Sartori, 6-4. Bethel's lone doubles victory came from the #3 team of Sergio Orradre and Garrison Miller, who triumphed over Tanner Warners and Corwin Kim, 7-5.
The singles matches saw mixed results for Bethel. At #1 singles, Santiago Flores was overpowered by Rodrigo Alipio, 6-4, 6-2. Nicol Marchetti, playing at #2 singles, won the first set but ultimately lost to Caleb Bartels, 6-2, 1-6, 2-6. Victor Otin secured a win for Bethel at #3 singles, defeating Felipe Sartori, 7-5, 6-2. Sergio Orradre also claimed victory at #4 singles, overcoming Ryan Broek in a three-set battle, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. However, Bernat Coll and Garrison Miller were unable to secure wins at #5 and #6 singles, respectively. Coll lost to Mário Neto, 4-6, 5-7, while Miller was defeated by Corwin Kim, 2-6, 4-6.
