Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Strong net presence puts Men's Volleyball over Siena Heights in Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. --- The Bethel Pilots (7-4, 4-1) outlasted the Siena Heights Saints (5-6, 2-3) Friday night on Coach Smith Court in the Siena Heights Fieldhouse in a 3-1 Pilots victory.

Bethel doubled the number of blocks SHU had, 14-7, which was the only category other than team hitting percentage, team kills, and errors.

The Saints made 31 total errors for a .102 hitting percentage, and the Pilots had 18 errors and a .178 hitting percentage.

Thomas Dunkley led the offense with 12 kills on 31 attempts and a team-leading five aces. Christian Woumnga ended the night with eight kills, only two errors (.318 hitting percentage), and seven block assists. Ling Pak Him had eight kills and three errors for a .278 hitting percentage. Santana Royball-Benson had a team-leading nine block assists.

The Pilots jumped to a 7-3 opening run in the first set, with Dunkley contributing two aces and a kill in that run supported by SHU errors.

SHU tied the set 10-10 from Daniel Rua's kill but was quickly erased by an error and two more Dunkley aces amongst a Rua attack error to make the set 14-10.

Bethel got to set point from a Saints service error, but the set win was delayed for two points before Pak Him put the set away 25-23.

Siena Heights led the second but was tied 6-6 from a Rua attack error, but SHU took back the lead and kept a safe distance, leading to set point 24-16.

Bethel battled with a 6-0 run before Jonathan Stovring gave the Saints set two 25-22.

The third set was tied 13 times before Bethel broke away after the 17-17 tie and got a two-point advantage that stretched until the set point at 24-18, but a Dunkely service error only delayed the set win by one point before Pak Him won the third 25-19.

Siena Heights battled hard in the fourth but could only get within one point at 23-22 before Rua had an attack error to set up match point, and then got a kill. Dunkley sealed the match with a kill to win set four 25-23 and the match 3-1.

Bethel sits in third for the WHAC standings, one match ahead of No. 13 Cornerstone and below No. 15 Indiana Tech and Lawrence Tech, who are tied for first 3-0.

The Pilots prepare for the (RV) Lourdes Graywolves on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2:00 p.m. in Sylvania, Ohio.
