PERU, Ind. --- The Bethel University women's golf team traveled to Peru, IN, serving as the hosts of a 22-team, 36-hole event at Rock Hollow Golf Club. The Bethel ladies were seeking their third straight tournament title but this time, came up short, faltering in the final holes and finishing second to tournament champion Grace College.
Freshman
Izzy Aigner put together her 2 best rounds of her young collegiate career, shooting 76-76, to earn her first collegiate medalist honor. The tournament medalist win was the third straight for Bethel, following
Aynslee Myer's win at Crystal Mountain and fellow freshman
Megan Bishop's title at last week's Battle @ Blackthorn.
Selah Unwin, who was tied for the lead after her round one score of 76, finished 5th overall and a spot on the all-tournament team, shooting 81 for the final round.
The Pilots trailed Grace by as many as 14 strokes early in the final round but grabbed a brief 3-stroke lead with six holes to go before struggling late. Bethel's 319-318 was 9 strokes off the pace set by the Lancers.
"I was obviously thrilled with the play of
Izzy Aigner and so happy for her to pick up a medalist honor. She has been so close to greatness this fall and a performance like this should go a long way in building her confidence for the future," said Bethel coach
Christopher Hess. "As a team, we really struggled to put any consistency together and maintain any momentum. We have a very talented team but have still not put four scores together in a single round. When we do, we'll be a very competitive team," added Hess.
Bethel's next tournament comes on September 30th when they travel to the Lancer Invitational at Stonehenge Golf Club for a one-day, 36-hole event.
