MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots Women's Soccer team started the 2024 campaign on the road at Holy Cross (Ind.) with a 1-0 win to improve to 4-3-1 all-time against the Saints.
Aubrey Vervynckt scored the first goal of the season in the 28th minute on
Grace Beck's assist to put the Pilots in the lead. Vervynckt now has her sixth career goal in her third season with BU. The Pilots put up 10 shots in the first half versus the Saints two and forced three corners.
The second half was quiet with three shots for the Pilots and four for Holy Cross. Bethel now has a two-game win streak over the Saints after tying in 2022 and lost the last three matches all-time since 2019.
"Great start for the team today! It is exciting to see young players step in and do well alongside the experience of our more seasoned players. Our ceiling is high and we have a lot of growth ahead of us. I am really proud of the way we came to compete and open up the season," said head coach Jason Freeman.
