OAKLAND CITY, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots (4-2) were swept in the first two games of the Oakland City (8-2) series, 3-2 and 9-0, on a cold and breezy Thursday afternoon in the Pilots non-conference slate.
GAME 1
The Pilots hit their first home run of the season, with Jordan Landkrohn ripping a solo home run to score the first run of the series in the top of the first.
Xander Willis of Oakland City answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to take the lead 2-1.
At the bottom of the sixth, Jacob Sitterly singled to the right field to score Cooper Tolson and tied the game 2-2.
The Mighty Oaks walked off the game with a sacrifice fly by Noah Baugher to win game one 3-2.
Frank Plesac (1-0) threw six innings, allowed seven hits and two runs, and struck out nine batters with no walks at the start of his second season. Peyton Ring was credited with the loss after taking the mound for Plesac in the seventh and allowed one hit, one run, and a walk.
GAME 2
Three of the six runs scored were on walks, with Baugher being the first run after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third inning. Sam Pinkert was the next hit by a pitch, followed by Fred Fernandez drawing a walk to make it a 3-0 game. Willis singled to left field in the bottom of the third to plate two runs, and Fernandez stole home and scored before the Pilots threw Mason Simon out at second base, which grew the Mighty Oaks lead to 7-0.
Garrett Causey ripped a homer in the bottom of the fourth, Pinckert scored in the bottom of the fifth, and he hit in Blake Herrmann in the bottom of the sixth to seal the doubleheader sweep 9-0.
Brad Vanoverberghe (1-1) was credited with the loss in his four-frame outing with three hits on seven runs, three walks, and two punchouts. Ethan Lengfelder came in relief in the fourth inning and allowed one hit, one run, and two walks; then, Peter Wallsmith closed the game with a final line of one hit, one run, and two walks.
