GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — The Bethel Pilots Men's Tennis team secured a decisive 5-2 victory against the Goshen Maple Leafs in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League tournament at Goshen College on Tuesday.
In doubles action, the Pilots clinched the doubles point with strong performances. Victor Bonsergent and Victor Otin triumphed over Matija Margetic and Timo Novak 6-3 in the first doubles match. Santiago Flores and Nicolo Marchetti followed suit, defeating Pedro Scattolon and Filippo Gallo 7-5 in the second doubles. However, Garrison Miller and Bernat Coll Ballester fell to Gustavo Santos and Alvaro Rueda 6-3 in the third doubles match.
The singles matches saw continued success for the Pilots. Victor Bonsergent defeated Timo Novak 6-4, 6-1 in the first singles match. Santiago Flores faced a tough opponent in Filippo Gallo, losing 6-4, 6-4 in the second singles match. Nicolo Marchetti secured a win in the third singles, overcoming Matija Margetic 7-5, 6-4. Victor Otin dominated in the fourth singles, winning 6-0, 6-4 against Mario Gomez. Sergio Orradre Escudero was defeated by Pedro Scattolon 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth singles, while Martin Gaviria rounded out the victories with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Bruno Ferrera Alvarez in the sixth singles.
The Pilots now await the winner of the match between Grace and Saint Francis (Ind.). They will play at home if Saint Francis upsets Grace, or on the road at Grace if the Lancers defeat Saint Francis with the match taking place on Thursday, Oct. 3 with time and locating to be decided.
