HUNTINGTON, Ind. --- The Bethel Pilots fell to the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars in the second play-in game of the Crossroads League
Tournament, hosted by Huntington University on Wednesday, 5-3.
The Cougars wasted no time to get on the board after a lead-off walk scored on an RBI double to right center field to start the game leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Jeremy Wiersema singled to center field, then stole second before Alex Stout ripped an RBI single to right field to tie the game in the top of the fourth 1-1.
The Pilots took the lead in the top of the fifth when Thomas Dolan hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Cooper Tolson from third and took a one-run lead, 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars rallied, starting with a game-tying RBI single to right center for the third consecutive hit of the inning.
The Cougars roped an RBI double to right center to take the lead 4-2, then pushed one more across the plate on an error to first base and grew the lead to 5-2.
Bethel roped in one last run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Dolan to score Landkrohn, but the Pilots ultimately fell 5-3 to end their season.

The Pilots' season is over, and they will return to the field in 2024.
