Pilots move to 5-2 with series sweep of Champion Christian

Hot Springs, Ark. --- The Bethel Pilots Baseball team (5-2) finished the series sweep over the Champion Christian Tigers (0-4) after a 9-1 game-one victory and a 13-0 shutout. The Pilots only let up three hits on day two and totaled 24 hits to leave Hot Springs, Ark., on the right note.
 
GAME 1
 
Junior pitcher Frank Plesac threw his first complete game of the season, only allowing one hit and one run in seven innings. He boasts eight strikeouts on two walks and earned his first win of the season.
 
Three Pilots had a multi-hit game, which included fifth-year senior Andrew Miranda, who went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs. Miranda swung a double and stole a base in his game-one performance.
 
Catcher Dominic Deisler went 2-for-4 with two singles in the second and fifth innings, while Cooper Tolson went 2-for-2 with a single and a double.  
 
GAME 2
 
The Pilots led the entire game and did not let up, allowing 10 Pilots to gain experience by the end of the game. Jeremy Wiersema went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles and scored twice.
 
Sophomore infielder Seth Ambrose hit a single in the second inning, a double in the third, and was walked in the fourth before being replaced at first base by Corbin Fletcher in the fifth inning.
 
Noah Borwege earned the win after throwing five innings and let up two hits, but he struck out seven batters and walked seven. Ty Mickiewicz earned the save after coming in the sixth inning and shutting down the series by striking out one in his one inning.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • The Pilots scored 13 earned runs between both games and forced 14 walks.
  • The starting pitchers combined for a total of 15 strikeouts between both games.
 
NEXT TIME OUT
 
Bethel will play their first series in Indiana as they take on the Oakland City Mighty Oaks at Pinnick Field in Oakland City, Ind., on Feb. 17-18 for a four-game series with the first pitch scheduled for noon Friday and Saturday.
