Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball snaps drought with 67-56 win over Goshen

Mishawaka, Ind. --- The Bethel University Women's Basketball team secured their first Crossroads League win of the year as they beat Goshen College 67-56 in a US Highway 20 Cup matchup Saturday afternoon in the Gates Gymnasium.

The Pilots were dominant in the 1st quarter as Mariah Claywell scored 8 early points. With 2:47 left in the first quarter, the Pilots found themselves up 19-5 but sluggish shooting combined with sloppy ball handling by both teams slowed the pace of the game in the second quarter and left Bethel with a 31-19 lead at halftime.

Goshen stayed on the hunt in the second half, maintaining full court pressure on the Pilots and feeding Syanne Mohamed in the paint. A 21-5 run by the Mapleleafs in the 3rd quarter gave them a 43-42 lead with 48 ticks left in the quarter but a clutch 3-pointer by senior Taylor Pasquale gave Bethel at 45-43 advantage and momentum going into the final quarter.

An early run from the Pilots in the 4th quarter gave them the juice they needed to finish the game out. Katie Kinker drilled a 3-pointer with 7:34 left in the game to put the Pilots up 55-43. Bethel outscored Goshen 22-13 in the final quarter and saw their lead swell to as many as 18 points as they cruised to their first victory since they defeated IU Kokomo on November 8th.

4 Pilots scored in double digits in the game with Katie Kinker leading the the way with 14 points. Maiah Shelton and Ellia Foster both had 12 points and Mariah Claywell added 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Shelton also grabbed 9 rebounds and recorded 3 steals.

The Pilots now stand at 5-13 overall with a Crossroads League record of 1-8.
