Bethel Athletics Announces Al Beutler Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022

MISHAWAKA – The Bethel University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the Dr. Albert J. Beutler Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022. The class includes Geandra Almeida (women's golf), Kate (Carr) Sawicki (women's track & field), Michael Edison (men's basketball), as well as Paul and Tonya Condry (athletics contributions).

Geandra Almeida, a 2014 Bethel graduate, competed in women's golf for the Pilots. Almeida was a two-time NAIA All-American, earning Honorable Mention status in 2013 and reaching Second Team in 2014—one of three Pilots to be named an NAIA All-American multiple times. Graduating with a 4.0 GPA, she was a two-time NAIA and two-time NCCAA Scholar Athlete.

Culminating a stellar career, Almeida was crowned the 2014 Crossroads League medalist and a two-time Crossroads League Player of the Year (2013-2014), as well as earning the recognition as the Crossroads League Female Athlete of the Year in 2014—the highest honor bestowed in the Crossroads League. Almeida recorded a career scoring average of 75.3 and was an eight-time tournament medalist, both ranking second in program history.

After transferring from Lee University (Tenn.) where she received two NAIA All-American nods, Almedia helped the Pilots win their first 16 regular season tournaments and 19 of 21 overall in her two years at Bethel, including Crossroads League Championships in 2013 and 2014. She helped lead the Pilots to two NAIA and two NCCAA National Championship appearances. The Pilots' overall record during the 21 events over her career was an astonishing 165-13 and the 11 team wins in 2012-13 led all women's golf programs across all collegiate levels.

Almeida took the reins of the women's golf program as head coach for two seasons in 2019 before moving back to Tennessee to serve as an Assistant Coach at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee in the fall of 2021.

Kate (Carr) Sawicki, a 2014 Bethel graduate, competed in women's track & field for the Pilots. Carr was a six-time NAIA All-American in the pole vault, three times each during Indoor and Outdoor seasons in 2012-13-14.

Carr was a four-time NCCAA All-American, three times in Indoor (2011-13-14) and once in Outdoor (2011), winning the NCCAA Indoor Title in 2014 with a final vault of 3.71m. She helped the Pilots to a sweep of the NCCAA Track & Field National Championships in 2011, helping the Pilots win Indoor and Outdoor in the same season for the second straight year.

In the Crossroads League, Carr was a four-time All-League athlete in the Pole Vault (2011-12-13-14) and was the Outdoor Pole Vault champion her first three years (2011-12-13). She helped the Pilots win the program's sixth Crossroads League Outdoor Championship in 2011.

A standout off the field, Carr was a four-time NCCAA Scholar Athlete, earning honors in both Indoor and Outdoor in 2013 and 2014.

Michael Edison, a 1999 Bethel graduate, competed in men's basketball for the Pilots. Edison helped the Pilots to an NAIA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1996, NAIA National Championships in 1997 and 1998, and an NAIA National Runner-Up finish in 1999. The Pilots' overall record during Edison's career was 140-16.

A force in the Crossroads League, Edison was named Third Team All-League in 1999 and helped the Pilots to four-straight regular season titles (1996-97-98-99) with an overall record in league play of 51-5—including the only two undefeated seasons in Crossroads League men's basketball history in 1995-96 and 1997-98. The Pilots also won two Crossroads League Tournament titles with Edison (1996-98).

A consummate teammate and ballplayer, Edison's career was defined by toughness, heart, and effort. The 'Ed-O-Meter' was a staple in Goodman Gymnasium and later the Wiekamp Athletic Center, counting how many times Edison would dive on the floor for loose balls.

The Plymouth native appears all over the program record book. He ranks 45th in program history with 1,257 career points, 9th with a 40.3-percent mark from three-point land, 10th in three-pointers made with 224, 13th with 498 assists, sixth with 146 games played, fifth with a 2.175 assist-to-turnover ratio, and second with 303 career steals.

Edison is currently the Assistant Principal and Head Boys' Basketball Coach at LaVille High School in Lakeville, Indiana.

Paul and Tonya Condry have been staples on the Bethel sidelines for the past two decades. The "Voice of the Pilots", Paul is the President and Founder of Regional Radio Sports Network (RRSN) and has been providing play-by-play coverage of Bethel basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball, beginning with men's basketball since 2000.

Paul and Tonya, and the RRSN crew, have been on the call for many highlights in Bethel's illustrious history over the past two decades, including celebrating NCCAA National Championships for men's basketball in 2007 and women's basketball in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2011.

Paul is a member of the Indiana Sportswriters & Sportscasters Association (ISSA) Hall of Fame and was awarded the Ron Lemasters Lifetime Achievement Award from the ISSA in 2018. He is a four-time winner of the National Sportscasters & Sportswriters Assocation (NSAA) Indiana Sportscaster of the Year Award and the ISSAA Marv Bates Award winner for the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year.

Paul also founded and serves as the Executive Director of "On God's Team Ministries", an organization promoting faith in the world of sports. Tonya serves as the Accountant and Event Coordinator for RRSN and leads the team-behind-the-team for Paul's broadcasts.
