Women's Volleyball Earns NAIA At-Large Bid

MISHAWAKA – (RV) Bethel Women's Volleyball earned an At-Large spot in the upcoming 2022 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship Opening Round on Saturday, November 19, one of 48 teams that will begin at 24 National Championship Opening Round sites this weekend and finish at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa from November 30 – December 4 for the final 24 teams remaining.
 

The Pilots' Opening Round opponent will be Columbia International (SC). They will play on Saturday in Columbia, SC at CIU's Moore Fitness Center. The Pilots and Rams have faced each once before in program history. At the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Volleyball Classic hosted by Keiser (Fla.) in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Pilots swept the Rams 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 in the last season's opener on August 12, 2021.

A LOOK AT COLUMBIA INTERNATIONAL
  • The Rams are located in Columbia, SC and are members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
  • The Rams are coached by Amber Haver, who is in her 5th season with CIU, with a record of 124-69. In 2021, she was named the NCCAA National Coach of the Year, the AAC Coach of the Year, and the AVCA Northeast Coach of the Year.
  • The Rams are 35-7 on the season and qualified for the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship by claiming both the AAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships.
  • The Rams have three wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25 this season.
  • The Rams are making their second appearance in the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship and are 0-1 all-time in the championship. They appeared in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Opening Round last year, losing at No. 12 Eastern Oregon.
  • Columbia International won 2021 NCCAA Division I Women's Volleyball National Championship last season as the No. 3 seed, winning all three pool play matches, before defeating Judson (Ill.) in the semifinals and Mid-America Christian (Okla.) in the championship.
 


PILOTS IN THE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
  • The Pilots are making their fourth appearance at the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship and their third consecutive trip.
  • The Pilots own an NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship record of 3-5. The Pilots concluded their season in the Opening Round a year ago with a 3-0 defeat at No. 22 Dordt (Iowa).
 
THE BRACKET BREAKDOWN
  • The bracket consists of 24, two-team Opening Round sites. The 24 winners of those Opening Round matchups will advance to the final site in Sioux City.
  • The field consists of 36 automatic berths and 12 at-large selections. The automatic berths are determined by regular-season champions or runners-up, conference tournament title winners or runners-up, or by conference selection. The remaining at-large bids were determined by the final regular-season Women's Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll announced last Wednesday.
